About the Initiative

Are you a business or investor committed to protecting Australia's First Nations cultural heritage?

The Dhawura Ngilan Business and Investor Initiative is supporting businesses and investors to embed First Nations-led cultural heritage standards into governance, strategy, operations, and due diligence.

"Dhawura Ngilan" means Remembering Country in the Ngunnawal language.  Implementing the Dhawura Ngilan principles helps companies and investors engage First Nations communities, reduce risk, and strengthen social licence.

Current laws and policies in Australia are, for the most part, unfit for the purpose of protecting and conserving First Nations cultural heritage. Due to the deficiencies in these laws, it is incumbent on businesses and investors to reach beyond legislative standards and implement leading practice for cultural heritage, as defined by First Nations Peoples.

By implementing the Dhawura Ngilan principles, your organisation joins a growing movement of both businesses and investors as well as government departments and agencies.

We are working with key businesses and investors across a range of sectors to implement the Dhawura Ngilan principles, including BHP, Lendlease, Westpac, ANZ, HESTA, QIC, Silva Capital, Alphinity Investment Management, Tilt Renewables, and the Clean Energy Finance Corporation.
